Swan Corp. Gets the Green Seal of Approval
Manufacturer receives GREENGUARD Children & SchoolsSM Certification for all Swanstone, Veritek products
ST. LOUIS – The Swan Corp.’s Swanstone and Veritek products have aced the test for indoor air quality, earning the prestigious GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification and the GREENGUARD Children & SchoolsSM Certification from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (www.greenguard.org).
Granted to manufacturers for products that have been tested to some of the world’s most stringent product emissions standards, such as being screened for more than 10,000 different chemicals, GREENGUARD Certification signifies that a product has the lowest possible chemical emissions and contributes to better indoor air quality. In addition to the general GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification, Swanstone and Veritek received the GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification, which takes into account the increased vulnerability of children to chemical emissions and tests products for use in facilities mainly used by children. (Visit http://www.greenguard.org/indoorAirQuality.aspx for more details on indoor air quality and its health impacts.)
“We’ve made a concerted effort to make our manufacturing process and the resulting products environmentally responsible,” said Mary Kay Severtsen, sales and marketing coordinator. “Our sinks, bathtubs, showers, walls, countertops and other products are used in a wide variety of buildings, so it’s significant that we received both the general and children and schools certifications. Although schools are not a major focus for Swan, children are using Swanstone and Veritek products in private residences, military and public housing, hospitals and many other facilities.”
In order to achieve the certifications, Swan underwent a three-month process that included a review of Swan’s manufacturing process, after which GEI selected product samples for a profile study. Finally, GEI’s scientific partner, Air Quality Sciences, tested representative samples of products and raw materials to determine whether they met the certification criteria. The products met the most stringent standards currently defined by GEI to achieve both certifications. Swan will undergo semi-annual testing and annual recertification to maintain the GREENGUARD mark.
