• Avoid substances that easily stain your teeth. If you will drink beverages that stain, try using a straw so that the liquid bypasses your front teeth.
• Brush or rinse immediately after consuming stain-causing beverages or foods.
• Follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss at least once daily to remove plaque. Use a whitening toothpaste (once or twice a week only) to remove stains and prevent yellowing.
• Touch-up treatments. You may need a touch-up every 6 months or after a year or two depending on the whitening method used. If you smoke or drink stain-causing beverages, you may need a touch up more often.
• Eat crunchy foods that require a lot of chewing such as carrots, celery, broccoli and apples. These foods are abrasive and will remove built up plaque, which dulls the appearance of teeth.
• A safe way to whiten your teeth is by brushing with peroxide daily. Dip your toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide, and brush for a minute or two this is also effective in killing bacteria. Hydrogen peroxide is normally available  at your local drugstore.
