DENVER, CO (June 26, 2009) - Transfrontier Parks Destinations (http://www.tfpd.co.za/), managing Machampane safari camp in Mozambique’sParque Nacional do Limpopo, today announced the completion of a successfulpartnership with Kingsley Holgate andhis Boundless Southern Africa Expedition. Kingsley and the Boundless teamspent time at Machampane during a five day journey through Parque Nacional doLimpopo, the transfrontier park joining South African, Mozambique and Zimbabwe,camping in the wilderness and undertaking community work en-route.
BoundlessSouthern Africa is a collection of nine elected countries that have beenbranded together to bring awareness to the various transfrontier conservationareas. These nine countries are brought together by their enthusiasm fornature, culture, and community. Through this brand the countries can offertravelers the chance to connect with local communities and to discover theirculture, history and sustained conservation of the environment and culturalheritage. A Transfrontier ConservationArea is defined as “an area straddling across two or more international borderswhere the natural and cultural resources are collaboratively managed by thegovernments and authorities involved”.
Endorsedby the Peace Parks Foundation, many of the transfrontier parks, including theParque Nacional do Limpopo, are being marketedin terms of ecosystems and not in terms of political or geographicalboundaries. “At Transfrontier Parks Destinations (http://www.tfpd.co.za/),we are thrilled that this project brings together African nations as viable andworthy collective tourist destinations, thereby boosting economic growth,” saidGlynn O’Leary, Managing Director of Transfrontier Parks Destinations (http://www.tfpd.co.za/). “Weare focused on a greater collaboration between African countries when it comesto conserving and protecting this continent’s rich and extraordinaryenvironments, nature, heritage and cultures.”
Thecommunity work on the Boundless Southern Africa Expedition included providing twolarge libraries of books for schools in the town of Massingir as well asleveling, marking and providing the goalposts for a soccer field that hosted amatch between the town’s young people as part of an outreach program for theforthcoming 2010 World
Cupin Africa. The group spent time educating the local communities in the use andimportance of mosquito nets before handing out high quality nets to nearly1,000 pregnant women and mothers with young children in the villages ofMassingir, Machamba, Chimangue and Mapai. The expedition also provided childrenin these communities, who attend school sitting on the ground under atree, with plastic desks for their laps so that they have something firm onwhich to write.
